Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technique or practice that can be applied on a blog to focus on gaining blog traffic through ‘free’ organic search results. 

By leveraging SEO skills, bloggers, content creators or small business owners can bring in a ton of referral traffic to their site and receive engagements from their targeted readers in the long run.

This is because SEO practice is profound to let us create relevant content throughout our blog and look for blog posts ideas that aligned with our reader’s interest.

Your blog gets rewarded by putting up great content surrounded by questions that people are already asking.

Why is SEO important?

SEO is not really important if you are a hobbyist blogger who isn’t counting on traffic to bring in more readers each month.

However, it is crucial for bloggers who treat their blog as a business and want to stay ahead with a consistent amount of traffic to get more income and a loyal following.

What happens when your blog isn’t a friend of SEO:

  • Surviving blog – Your blog grows slowly and is getting limited traffic.
  • Less revenue – Affiliate sales are not consistent or hardly any due to the lack of targeted traffic
  • Not building healthy leads – Without enough visitors, you can’t build up an email list with customers coming to your way. You created great lead magnets for email subscribers but no ever landed to your blog.
  • Low blog ranking – Billions of searches are done everyday but without implementing a single SEO tip, blog posts are buried in the deep sea once they’re published.

And for that as a blogger, it is a discouraging fact that when you put in the effort to write a good blog post, but no one ever has the chance to read it.

So what has been going wrong? Here’s what we will figure out in this post.

As it turns out 4.4 millions of blog posts are published per day, it’s impossible for Google crawlers to scan without missing a piece of great content.

So what we need to do is to make sure that it’s able to index our blog posts without fail.

The point is to carry out a simple SEO routine whether it’s in a blog post or the entire blog to ensure that crawlers can immediately know that we’ve submitted a new article on our blog.

  • Guest posts –  Your blog DA increases when you linked your blog posts to multiple high authority sites with high DA.
  • Social promotion – You are welcomed to generate more referral traffic through social media sharing to increase clicks and boost link shares.

Know that on-page SEO works well with off-page SEO strategies to curate high-quality content yet as a trustable source to be shared.

  • Make your content engaging, unique, and scannable with title tags.
  • Only use relevant keywords in blog posts
  • Add no-follow links to affiliate links
  • Use catchy titles that are relatable eg: numbering or powerful words like brilliant, stunning, mind-blowing, free, latest…

Don’ts for SEO principles

  • Keyword stuffing – there’s a difference between using the right keywords (around 2-3 per blog post) and adding LOTS of keywords that are seen as spam on Google.
  • Generate copy-and-paste content instead of modelling great blog post success
  • Lack of original and resonating factors in articles
  • Using black hat SEO tricks to gain traffic through miscellaneous ways
  • Buying unknown backlinks from low-quality sites

Please avoid using these ways to try improving your blog traffic as it will rather not work. But will lead you into a big risk of getting a drop-rank punishment from Google!

Realised that mastering SEO is the pathway to building a recognised brand in the online world.

Because after all, the search engine only presents good brands that optimize content marketing and giving the best user experience to people.

If your blog has great content, but is themed on a non-SEO friendly website template, it takes longer time to get your blog in front of the eyes.

As long as we understand that traffic, leads, and engagement all boils down to the effort of SEO, building a brand on social media becomes an easy achievable goal.

In my opinion, SEO strategies are a skill essential to help you increase your blog’s reach from various different aspects. 

From writing, categorising, designing your blog, adding image alt tags or even giving a better user experience to readers.

If the SEO part is done well on your blog, many small mistakes can be eliminated and you never have to look back with correcting any. 

Other than that, expecting people coming to your blog and keep creating content that helps! 🙂

1. Identify long-tail keywords

Specifying a targeted keyword increases the chances of getting direct traffic within that volume of searches. 

For example, if you are a beauty blogger, aim keywords that targets a specific demographic readers.

Instead of using keywords like a skincare routine, identifying other long-tail keywords like oily skincare routine is a great choice to reduce competition among bloggers who are already ranking for other keywords.

Write article for a specific group of audience by using long-tail keywords to cater to their needs.

Just remember not to hit a keyword with volume less than <1000 to ensure the idea itself has a market.

2. Internal link building

Utilize the opportunity to link out to other articles in your blog post. Just make sure that you aren’t just promoting your own blog posts but others! It goes a long way if you learn how to add resources link within your articles.

So link a few of related ones in your blog post to make sure its rich with information. It does help with SEO too, but remember don’t go overlink!

3. Optimize Social Media with keywords in bio description

Now that you know to rank higher and get more traffic to your website, optimizing keywords in blog posts is a must.

But here’s the thing,

There are so many places you can actually apply SEO on to get more visibility and booming traffic to your site.

And all of that comes down to optimizing SEO on your social media accounts!

Yes, your Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Linkedln profile can help boost your blog’s reach if you add related keywords to your bio.

One of the best strategies I’m currently using to skyrocket my blog’s traffic is using Pinterest Marketing to learn the right way to pin so that my blog post can reach out to a bigger audience!

I’ve learned that Pinterest SEO is the most benefiting social media contributing to my blog pageviews. It’s also not just random pinning and waiting for more views on my blog after publishing a post.

It’s grateful that I’ve been improving my pinning skills through courses and continue to grow this blog!

More ways to pick the right keywords:

Using Google’s Search Result

My another favourite method to look for juicy keywords, which is utilising Mr. Google’s built in data in the search bar. Okay, maybe you don’t quite understand, but it’s possible to get more authentic long-tail keywords right from Google’s search enquiries.

You can see that there are some particular suggestions ready for you to kick in your next keyword to be used in articles.

All you need to do is add one keyword you want to feature in a blog post and make sure they are also added in the meta description, title and content to purpose a targeted audience who wants to read more about your content.

Related searches

Don’t forget to look over the footer if you want to find the most relatable keywords, sometimes the good are just as close. (more of that, it’s FREE!)

Use this as an advantage to even schedule your content strategy and create a list keywords that will help you form a month of blog post ideas.

There you go, using these keywords can be very helpful to boost traffic as they are suggested by Google that it is relevant to the majority out there.

Lastly, you can also analyze pages from competitors at the top pages of search engine result to have a better idea of how great keywords helps in creating a new idea.

Not to say copy, but you can model them and get ideas to create something as good. That’ll be a quick tip if you’re stuck at creating new content.
