10 Design Principles You Need To Create Outstanding Graphics

So let me tell you about a little graphic experience I had, after started blogging around 2 months ago.

I create new pins! and some other good-looking pins every another day for my blog and post it to Pinterest. (do you relate?)

And what I’ve always keep in mind is to create graphics pins that are simple and consistent to match my theme layout and Pinterest feed.

You don’t need to be a graphic designer to create an outstanding graphic.

And neither you should get intimidated by learning principles (aka tips and tricks) to save your time creating graphics that works amazingly for your content.

Contrast

To design a perfect pin/graphic on your portfolio, all you need is that ‘wow’ from the second a person sees your graphic.

And if you want to make that magic happen in 13 milliseconds, constrast of your graphic must be doing a great job.

It’s one of the most important criteria to improve your graphic look!

People is going to see it transparently with no hiding stuffs. This gives them a hint of what your story is about.

Using bold fonts with a combination of joyful colors can improve visibility greatly on plain backgrounds if you currently don’t have enough stock photos to use.

Balance

With a graphic design or a pin that you’re pitching on right now, keep in mind that every element you add on the graphic itself carries a visual weight.

And in order to create an appealing design with useful information laid out, visual balance is what you want to do to bring out the symmetrical layout that appears to be consistent with an orderly look.

However, it can be seen as the above that a well symmetrical image doesn’t seem to be the more interesting graphic than the latter one.

Visual balance in graphic tend to keep the viewer’s eye longer to process the valuable information on it.

Because it looks more organized and well presented!

How to improve balance in graphics?

Tips
COLOR – Repeat the usage of the same color to enhance visual weight
SIZES– Use the same size of elements to create an orderly match layout (this tells people the main idea of your listing!)
BRAINSTORM the whole idea of your post and create a mindmap graphic.

Laid out the main ideas on the big boxes and subtitles on the small boxes. (as shown above)

People tend to click into graphics that are harder to see what’s inside, so they would rather go for a close-up on your graphic if it is organized with bit-size blocks that look visually balanced.


Emphasis

Another way to make your graphics stand out is to emphasize your ideas clearly.

It basically means to need to have a focal point – to allow people to focus on a particular part of your design.

And that’s the way you can draw their attention towards understanding your content!

Proportion deals with sizes that you divide your graphic parts into, where it’s possible to make your design look more ideal when you know how to properly give space in your work.

Scaling a good proportion can harmonize and bring out the balance among parts of your design.

Determine your graphic element’s proportion according to their realistic size, for example, a pen should be smaller than a book, while a person should definitely be larger than all of them.

Hierarchy in visual design can let people to better digest information in an easy way.

It’s a total change of perception for readers if you illustrate hierarchy in your graphics!

Readers will take their time to scan through easily what’s about an infographic if you use hierarchy to categorize your content.

For example, I like to use headings to separate my content because it is easier for my readers to read!

Patterns also play a big role in repetition design, which makes sense for the presence of a logo in branding or your creative business.
