So what the heck is SEO when it comes to blogging?

SEO is a technique used to help Google rank your blog’s article higher by the organic search result.

Which means your content has a greater chance to pop out in front of its interested readers as a newly created content.

You might be thinking, why do you need to help Google to do all this random stuff, aren’t you a content creator to focus on blogging and start making money with it after all?

That is definitely a no-no.

How Google Ranks Your Article?

The truth is, when you create a new content, you will want Google to share it with the right people and they come to your site looking for their answer.

However, what you need to know is the WordPress bloggers in this universe alone publish over 2 million posts every day.

That comes out to 24 blog posts every second, which means articles will be buried deep down if there’s no way for Google to find them.

With that being said, learning to implement SEO tips is actually helping Google to find out your article when someone is looking for it!

Find out your SEO mistakes to rank higher

When you rank higher for an article, Google will be more than happy to show it up for the online visitors.

So let’s find out what are the SEO mistakes you can stay away from today to boost your blog traffic and pageviews with your blog.

1. Not niching down your blog content

I’ve learned so much about blogging in the first quarter of 2020 and I failed because of one thing – not niching down enough for my blog content.

If you consider yourself a beginner in blogging, please take note of this before you want to write a piece of content.

⭐️ Define your target audience with a profitable niche

Don’t just write whatever you want, you need to stick with a blog plan that has traffic and it’s audience to serve.

Writing different types of content is going to put your blog with a big problem – when you write for everyone, you end up writing for nobody else.

Focus on writing a topic that will benefit your audience. Your mission is to help them solve a problem by utilizing your SEO profile.

For example, if you write about fitness on your blog, then pick related keywords like fitness plans or keto meals that will benefit to your blog searches.

Don’t ever run down to talking about beauty or fashion if you want Google to rank your blog properly with SEO.

Be an expert in one niche will give you a better chance to find your audience. This is the way you can grow your blog fast and start monetizing it with a profitable niche.

2. Not adding alt text in Image SEO

Okay so if you don’t know yet, Google can’t look at a picture in your blog and realise what it’s function is for.

Whether it’s for decorative purpose or greatly related to your post, Google is limited to have an eye looking for it.

However, Google as a search engine, being not able to see, it’s still possible for it to read texts.

Yes, you’re right it’s the texts you can add into the images – to add a way for Google finding your content effortlessly.

⭐️What is alt text in your blog post?

Alt text basically means a short description about an image that is laid in your blog post. Just describe the image with keywords to show exactly what it is.

For example, in this post, I would add Huge SEO Mistakes To Avoid For Beginner Bloggers (aka the title which someone will search for) as my image alt texts.

This helps Google to identify what my image serves in the blog post and let my content searchable and found by targeted audiences. (probably someone like you!)

⭐️Improve click through and conversions

When you search for a solution on the Internet, usually the same wording appears in your searches, only after you’ll get to see a number of other articles with different titles.

Adding alt text will improve your blog’s SEO, whereby your blog post images can appear in front of millions when choosing a not so competitive keyword.

3. Not aiming for the right keyword

When you just started with a brand new blog, you have almost no advantage to stay ahead of other bloggers, in terms of blogging experience, established blog content, or even having a decent traffic needed. (unless you’re popular and have a good follower base already)

So what is your advantage as a newbie blogger that can put you first in position?

It’s keyword. Low competition keywords that will let people discover your blog through searches.

That means not many bloggers are writing about that particular topic and you can go ahead and create valuable content for your readers. (only applies when it’s your blog niche topic!)

And now you know that you should not look for random keywords to write in your blog post, because you will not rank for it!

⭐️Long-tail keywords

Try to look for long tail keywords that are less competitive when you just begin with writing blog posts. This will directly sends you the traffic from that search, and make it easy to drive more people to your blog post.

As you can see, from the keyword research shown from UberSuggest, when I type in “blogging tips” there are a few of keywords with low competitiveness (at the green bar). The lower the number, the better the keyword to choose.

For this case, I will go for “tips in blogging” because it has a higher volume of searches and a lower SEO competitiveness.

That means I have a higher chance to rank for this article!

4. Not using a SEO-friendly theme

Having a SEO WordPress theme is going to let your blog more accessible and searchable for people in the online world.

Imagine having your WordPress blog set up but it’s not able to reach people, it will be no point to write posts without letting people to have the chance read it.

⭐️What SEO-friendly theme helps:

Here’s what a SEO-friendly theme can benefit your blog in the long run.

  • Responsive Design – Mobile friendly responsive feature for ranking blog post
  • Optimize blog speed (fast) – Use SEO friendly themes to perform your blog better
  • Boost your blog traffic – When SEO feature is built in in your WordPress blog, you are more likely to rank higher for blog posts and increase your revenue.

You’ll need a clean, sleek and simple theme to help you improve user experience when someone is looking for their answer in your blog.

An ugly theme scares people away from your blog.

It might also turn off readers to stay on your blog for a little longer. That’s how bounce rate of a blog increases and it’s bad for your blog performance.

These 10 + WordPress blogs have the latest built-in feature of SEO practices and it will definitely support your blog success in the long run.

5. Not analyzing data from Google Analytics

If you’re looking for ways to boost your blog traffic with momentum, you’ll definitely need to take some time to analyze your blog’s traffic overview from the Google Analytics.

You can easily set up your Google Analytics with your domain website here.

⭐️Behaviour and overview performances

Finding out what demographic profiles of your user’s is crucial to keep the same audience coming back.

If you see the demographic profiles that are not really fitting in and your blog is not able to convert them into a customer base, then you will need to reconsider whether the blog niche is profitable or changing your content strategy.

⭐️Keep track of traffic sources

Find out which search engines or referral social medias are bringing you the most traffic upon to your blog.

You (will) want to work on those particular social medias to increase monthly unique visitors to your blogging platform.

⭐️Pinterest Marketing – the easiest social media to master

Pinterest Growing Traffic Of My blog

I personally uses Pinterest to drive most traffic to my site. (because it is literally one of the easiest to target and achieve) Even though my site is new, I still get lots of referrals saving my posts (especially from the Tailwind Tribes)

And it all thanks to Pinterest with Ell that I’m able to go through the fundamentals of Pinterest with valuable tips (I would never know by figuring out myself) to start growing my blog with consistent traffic.

You can grab the Pinterest marketing course and find out how Pinterest can leverage your entire blog’s traffic when starting with a brand new blog.

6. Not applying anchor text in internal links

We’ve always seen links in an article that says “click here” or “check out this post” to boost CTA in a certain blog post. (I’ve done that in the past too)

Sure, doing this can leverage a call to action button that entices people to read more on your blog.

However, what you might not be aware is – you are wasting a chance to improve your on page SEO with a relevant link text.

⭐️Adding anchor texts (keywords) into your CTA links

If you want to improve your blog traffic from the perspective of SEO, use anchor text or relevant keywords to represent them instead of adding a plain CTA button.

This will let search engines like Google indicate what your blog is about and more likely to send your blog post to the right audience.

Which means you’ll gain more healthy organic traffic with a simple effort made on promoting your links in your blog content.

But remember relevancy of your content applies too! No one will want to read about financial plans right after watching for a diy tutorial on the blog.

That’s how important it is to write relatable content in your blog niche so that your audience would love to read on.

7. Focusing on link quantity instead of link quality

I bet most beginner bloggers have once had that spirit of fire and just wanted your blog seems to have some established blog post – TO BE A REAL BLOG.

It’s funny that I’ve actually known that “content is king” before starting a blog, but yet I am still inclined to write many blog posts at once to ‘fill’ my blog with passionate random content.

I was truly wrong from the start.

And now that you can prevent from ending up like my previous mistakes and learn from these lessons.

⭐️Always keep in mind with creating quality content

You’re not a machine to produce content repeatedly without adding value to your readers. People can sense if your content is going to deliver them the right kind of message. No matter through your knowledge or speaking of experience.

Write about what speaks to them, not for yourself.

⭐️Do research before you start writing

We’ve talked about keyword research and using catchy titles to spruce up your blog content, but please remember to take time brainstorming these content ideas before you start typing them out.

I personally like to take down notes before writing about a detailed post.

It helps me to clarify questions I’m not sure of (i’ve much more to learn) and be more confident when speaking about that related topic.

⭐️Getting Backlinks

Backlinks are essentials to increase your blog’s domain authority (DA) in a short period of time. A higher DA blog usually drives more traffic due to it’s trusted and recognised content.

This is why an authorized company like Nike can always stay at the top of search when someone is looking for sport shoes. Because they are gaining backlinks from any part of the world.

The more backlinks you get from other blogs, (especially high DA’s blog), the greater opportunity you get to strike your blog to the first page of Google!

⭐️How to get backlinks from other blogs?

⭐️Write good and detailed guide

It wasn’t easy to begin with writing an awesome yet detailed guide when you just started. However, letting your words flow is something you need to practice and get better at it.

That’s why you need to do research to compile any ultimate guide you plan to write about.

A great post will solve someone’s problem and allow other bloggers to take the opportunity linking your content to their blog. That’s how you gain backlinks to boost blog traffic without spending a dime!

⭐️Never link to low quality links

Avoid linking to any sensitive, adult, gambling sites that will not do any good for your blog SEO. It will ruin your profile and make Mr. Google confused about your blog.

Using tools like SEOquake helps to point out what are the worthy links you should be linking to build up a good SEO profile for your blog.

⭐️Manual backlinks

Collaborate with other blog owners by writing guest posts to get consistent backlinks from them.

For example, Blog A wrote a guest post on Blog B and linked their other relevant articles within that post. That’s it!

This can enrich your blog’s content from many different perspectives and show your audience that you are an expert in your niche.

You can start looking for sites that are open for backlinks and contact with them for further contribution of articles.

8. Not using unique title tags and meta descriptions

Catchy titles that are short often get noticed by people and are more likely to make them find out more. Choosing an appealing title (like the menu) gives somebody a desire to taste it from the moment they see it.

So make use of this opportunity by writing “How to lose 10 pounds in a week without changing your lifestyle” compared to “How to lose weight and get slim with exercises”.

⭐️Adding unique title tags and meta description

Make sure to include the key content with keywords along your meta description everytime you publish a new post. It is fairly important to add tags on your post to pinpoint what categories should it be in.

Let me show you how to do it.

First, download Yoast SEO by adding a new plugin from your dashboard.

Write down the long-tail keywords and a catchy title you want to include in your meta description. Done!

Not to forget adding custom meta descriptions on every page (including homepage) about your post categories to show what your blog services are all about.

For example, if you are writing about health fitness, mention in your services about what you can provide for people.

Your targeted audiences will be happy to get in touch if they know you provide free training or keto meals planning for them.

Beginners should have themselves prepared with these basic SEO knowledge to avoid a whole bunch of mistakes thats are frustrating to correct in the future.
